The mission of Working Together for Change is to assist prisoners with their decision to be transformed and reconcile through faith, family, and Community by helping them to recognize the power and truth of a prison ministry. This project coincides with the mission of the host organization, Fairview Baptist Church, and the current Services they provide by: 1) working inside and outside of Corrections Department institutions to reclaim lost citizens and equipped them with the necessary skills and behaviors to help them successfully return to the community; 2) collaborate with other nonprofit agencies interest in providing restorative services that restore incarcerated persons to the community as functioning citizens; and 3) work with advocacy organizations to facilitate functional family relationships that recognize the worth and voices of inmates and focus on healthy family relationships as comfort for the inmate and family member.

 

Working Together for Change plans to extend Fairview's current efforts by increasing the advocacy, policy, organizing, and building coalitions for justice through building blocks of informed voters in Oklahoma and building a voice and leadership in churches to organize for pressure on legislatures and/or the Department of Corrections to put money in the community to build strong prison ministries and community support. By enhancing re-entry programs to prison ministries, leadership training, and educational conferences; we will be able to build economic structures that focus on decreasing the prison populations and move power from the government to the communities.
