Lester Leroy Young

Mr. Young graduated from East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma with a Bachelors in Arts, Double Major in Speech and Sociology.  He continued his education by attending University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma and working towards his Masters Degree in Business Administration

           

Mr. Young retired from the Oklahoma Department of Corrections after 41 years of service, beginning his career as Probation and Parole Officer in 1974, moving to multiple positions including Assistant District Supervisor and District Supervisor of Probation and Parole, Deputy Director of Division of Probation and Parole, Superintendent at Oklahoma City Community Corrections Center, Wardens at both John Lilley Correctional Center and Oklahoma State Reformatory, Oklahoma Correctional Industries Coordinator, Intermediate Revocation Administrator for the Division of Community Corrections, and Contract Monitor. 

 

Mr. Young currently serves on the American Correctional Association National Adult Corrections and Probation and Parole Committees.  Mr. Young currently serve on the Oklahoma Halfway House Advisory Board, Working Together for Change Advisory Board.  Mr. Young is a certified badged Oklahoma Department of Corrections volunteer.

 

Mr. young is a CLEET Certified Peace Officer; and has Completed 40 hours training in Strategies for Building Effective Work Teams presented by the National Institute of Corrections in Longmont, Colorado.; Completed 32 hours in Working with Minority Offenders, an instructor course presented by the National Institute of Corrections in Boulder, Colorado; Completed 24 hours in Influencing the External Environment at the National Institute of Corrections in Longmont, Colorado; Completed 40 hours Masters Courses from University of Oklahoma on Race & Ethnicity Dealing with Blacks, Hispanics, Asian Americans and Native Americans; Completed 6 hours Masters Course from American Bible College and Seminary on Marriage and Family and Theology and Theory with a 4.0 grade average; Completed 32 hours in System Automation for Managers at the National Institute of Corrections in Boulder, Colorado; Completed a 16-hour Department of Corrections course on Supervision of Correctional Personnel; Completed 240 hours in the Oklahoma Department of Corrections Upper Management Development Program; Completed 80 hours in Correctional Management course at the National Institute of Corrections in Boulder, Colorado; Completed 14 hours of training in Programming Use of the IBM Personal Computer as a correctional information management tool; Completed 40 hours of training in Current Problems in Human Relations; Completed 80 hours in Managing the Organization course at the National Institute of Corrections in Boulder, Colorado; Completed 8 hours of training in choosing the Best Person for the Job from the Human Resource Development Division; and Completed numerous hours of H.R.D.D. and private sector management training.

 

Mr. Young is currently a member of American Correctional Association, Correctional Accreditation Managers of America, Southern States Correctional Association, National Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice and the Oklahoma Correctional Association
