Pastor Derrick A. Scobey
Pastor Derrick A. Scobey was born in Oklahoma City, in the heart of northeast Oklahoma City. Pastor Scobey attended graduated Douglass High School Class in 1985. Pastor Scobey, like so many young men and women, became attracted to worldly ways and treasures and lacked overall direction in his life.

At the age of 28, a dear friend witnessed and shared with him the gospel message, “…at the name of Jesus every knee should bow …and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:10-11 KJV). This had a profound effect on Pastor Scobey’s life and little would he know change the course of his life as several different people continued to witness God’s plan of Salvation and God’s love for us over a period of months. In March 1996, alone in his apartment, Pastor Scobey got down on his knees and prayed to receive Jesus Christ as his personal Savior.

Within a few weeks, Pastor Scobey relocated to the Dallas, Texas where he united with the New Birth Baptist Church under the pastorate of Dr. George W. Pryor, Senior Pastor. Pastor Scobey was baptized at the New Birth Baptist Church on July 7, 1996. Pastor Scobey’s zeal and hunger to understand God’s Word grew under Dr. Pryor’s leadership. Pastor Scobey attended bible study, prayer meeting, every worship service he had opportunity and was nurtured at New Birth Baptist Church with God’s word. He found personal mentor with Dr. Pryor spent several hours with him on a weekly basis. God had given him a spiritual father/mentor and Pastor Scobey’s spiritual learning increased exponentially. In hindsight, God had a plan.

On October 10, 1997, Pastor Scobey accepted God’s call to the Gospel Ministry.

In January 2009, Pastor Scobey planted the Restoration Family Church of McKinney with a strong emphasis on multi-ethnic worship. Pastor Scobey has always believed that God’s universal Message of Salvation should be celebrated by all of God’s people worshiping together and not segregated. Restoration Family Church demonstrated growth in number as well as cultural diversity.

Within a few years, the First Baptist Church of McKinney, a 5,000-member church invited Restoration Family Church and Pastor Scobey to share worship space on their campus as they believed in multi-cultural worship as well. After only 4 months of worshipping on campus, the two churches agreed to merge in order to become one faith family. On October 1, 2012 Pastor Scobey became the Senior Teaching Pastor & Pastor of Multi-Cultural Engagement, and was the first African-American Pastor to be on staff in the 140-year history of this First Baptist Church (FBC) of McKinney. During his tenure at FBC McKinney, Pastor Scobey served as pastor, preacher and teacher of FBC McKinney’s Restoration service which experienced significant growth from approximately 100 to 700 attendees. Pastor Scobey also assisted in helping with assimilation for the Hispanic, Chinese and Vietnamese churches who met on FBC McKinney’s Campus.

Pastor Scobey’s ability to reconcile peace among others, and his unique skill of mediation allowed him to be instrumental in bringing together Pastors of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds in the city of McKinney. These Pastors came together over a period of time as one body with a common goal. Pastor Scobey is known for his ability to offer encouragement and salvation, particularly to those who are beyond the walls of the church, especially to those who do not attend church on Sunday mornings. Pastor Scobey’s passion for reaching souls and helping people extends internationally. In 2013, Pastor Scobey went on a two week mission trip to Uganda where he preached with an interpreter 18 times over the course of 13 days. In 2014 he travelled to Liège, Belgium to assist a group of Congolese churches with evangelizing their communities and in 2015 he returned back to Belgium as the guest Evangelist to run a one week revival for the Congolese Baptist Ministers Association where he preached nightly with an interpreter. He has also preached in several primarily Spanish speaking churches.

On June 22nd, 2015, Pastor Scobey, being led by the Holy Spirit, and believing God, made a move of faith and relocated to Oklahoma City. This move took place almost a week prior to the Ebenezer Baptist Church affirming God’s call on his life to serve them as Pastor. The average attendance at Ebenezer has tripled since Pastor Scobey’s arrival. As a result of his personal relationship with Jesus Christ, his dedication to prayer and studying the Word of God, Pastor Scobey has the unique ability to transcend tradition in his delivery of the Gospel. Pastor Scobey is the extremely proud father of two wonderful and beautiful children, Elijah-18 and Aliyah-16, and is engaged to be married to Ms. Angela Bush.
